Faulty drum head?

Loading...

While I'm sticking with Remo, I have started taking all heads out of the box to check them before purchase. I started doing this when I noticed they're not all coated equally, but soon started also checking for crimps, cracks etc.

It only makes sense really...though I never used to do it lol.

I know, I think remos are the best but the more recent ones I've had all seem to have a problem with the coating coming off, particularly if I'm playing heavy stuff, I've heard other people say that as well online. Thanks everyone here for all the good recommendations as ever so onwards with it then for me..

Well I've taken all the advise here on board and have now got the drum in a very nice zone I think is better than it was before coated ambassador instead of coated diplomat. At first I thought I'd messed it up so I took it back off and followed purdy shuffles advice just using the beezwax and The very fine steel wool, but gawd it can be a b.....r to tune, very nice now though. Smoothing the edges has made it easier to tune. I just need to learn how to play it better now!! I wish there was something on here where we could hear more vintage snares being played, I have found some on YouTube, by the way who is 'professor swing' I love the way he plays his swing/jazz stuff especially when he plays vintage radio kings.flowers2

I think I'd better say this. There obviously wasn't anything wrong with the remo head. It's seated on there perfectly well.
