Fastening Chrome Strip to Slingerland Bass Drum

Loading...

Hey everybody! This my first post on VDF and I'm very excited. Here's my dilemma:

I recently purchased an early 70s 3 ply COW kit and needed a front bass drum hoop, so I bought one on ebay to paint. Sanded and painted it gloss black and now it's time to fasten the chrome strip. I cannot find this size staple ANYWHERE. When I finally found a "good enough" size (3/8" crown), I attempted to fasten it on using a pneumatic stapler and it appears I will need to drill pilot holes, because the chrome strip practically laughed in my face. Before I take further action, does anyone have any experience in doing this?

I will also be doing this on a 5ply Sling kit, so I'd like to get it right. Any advice would really make my day.

Thanks!!

I have replaced chrome strips but have fabricated "staples" from small Brads/Nails... I used a vice to create the bends and a grinder to sharpen ends.. these I have installed using a tack hammer and a small dob of contact adhesive at the joint..

Note I used the original holes... but would otherwise have needed to drill..

Cheers

John

Excellent advice, John! Thanks for that. That may be my next move. All holes are there, so it should not be a problem.
