Slingerland!...

Don't mean to be petty here... not my intention! ... more informational if you will. That mentioned: Your Fibes SFT 690 COF snare is actually MID to LATE 70's as it features the square Fibes badge with the logo "mirror imaged" on top/bottom. This was the last Fibes badge installed before they sold the company to Corder in 1979. The rectangular Fibes badge was in place till '73 through late '74. The badge on your drum came in around 1975 and stayed in place until '79.

Would you like serial numbers? not sure what else I can add to what Tommy said, its a nice drum, just doesn't fit for my style music which is hard rock, I just picked up a Corder snare, its 15 x 8..ITS A MONSTER FOR ROCK!!!

Buddy Rich played one; pretty good endorsement there. I played one of these for a few years in the early 80s. Fantastic snare drum. Actually, my only gripe about it was the snare throw-off, which seemed to back off a bit during play.

Buddy did indeed play the Fibes SFT 690 COF... and TWICE with two "different" models at that! Right after leaving Rogers in late 1966 he played/endorsed Fibes drums, but very briefly. The endorsement only lasted 5 months or so... but! ... Fibes was a relatively NEW drum company at this time and all the shells were hand made/laid up fiberglass. Buddy's snare was essentially a prototype as it featured the PRE PRODUCTION Fibes SFT strainer... ( which was NOT the final production design ) ... the snare drum was also only 8 lugs as the production model ended up being 10. Anyway... these EARLY Fibes COF snares are near impossible to find... but I've got one, and I'm finishing the restoration now. It is a LATE '66 EARLY '67 and the EXACT model that BR played during his first go 'round with Fibes. Here's a picture of my EARLY 70's model that Buddy played while getting paid to endorse/play Slingerland. ( part of my BR snare drum collection covering all models he played between 1949 and 1979 ) The main thing is the badge. The EARLY 70's models all had the rectangular Fibes badge... not square. Otherwise, it's essentially the same drum, and will certainly sound the same.
