Early 60's Sonor Teardrop - Wrap ID and Spare Parts

Hi Everyone,

Super excited to pick these up for a good price the other night, I think this is an early 60's Sonor Teardrop kit with original finish. This is an awesome looking wrap and looks original to me. I used them at rehearsal that night and they sound beautiful, wide open and full of life.

I haven't popped the heads off yet to look, but the seller said the toms are three ply beech with re-rings and the bass drum is six ply beech with re-rings, not sure if it was typical to have differing ply counts on drums in the same setup, or lends itself to maybe a mid 60's transition era of some kind. No extra holes.

I have the tom arm post itself, but I think I need the hardware receiver piece that sits in the bass drum itself, it doesn't seem to fit like it should. Also I need ONE bass drum rod and claw and ONE floor tom leg to keep it original. If anyone has an idea about any of that stuff please let me know and of course any feedback or opinion at all is most welcome.

The plan is to keep them original and play them!

The BD reso head is Seventies, the wing nut on the BD mount is missing and hopefully not the insert. The center mount and lug neck put it 65+. The mounts till then were off the the side and the retractable cymbal arm is 65+.

Can you pull the BD mount and show the wrap difference, I believe Sonor called this wrap sparkle Champaine and yours have the reds faded to black !!

I didn`t catch the sizes !!

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!

Wow Oddball that's amazing the wrap would fade to such a cool colour! It's almost like a brownish black / gold sparkle. Very cool. The Supra is an existing family member, I always seem to have one with me. :) I'll pull the bass drum mount and get some more pictures this week. The sizes were advertised as 20, 13, 16 and are close, but not exactly sure yet as I haven't taken the tape out. Pretty sure that they will be the odd sizes....I think the tom bracket insert is missing.

Here's a tom bracket on eBay, I might have to buy it. It's not completely original though...

Very cool drums. I've never played any vintage Sonors, but they look awesome. High on my list of cool looking vintage drums. Congrats!

Thanks all. After doing some more digging around, I think the finish is called Black Galaxy Sparkle. Here is a picture of a kit that Drumatix (Emory) sold a while back. LOVE it. The link is here but I'll post a pic in case the link dies. Wish they were here with me instead of locked in the rehearsal studio so I could look at that tom mount insert more closely and figure out the parts I need to hunt for. Emory calls that 13 tom at 8.5x12.5/8ths!
