DW rail mount...

Loading...

I was in a shop today and saw a new DW kit in jazz sizes. I noticed it had a very nice rail mount on it. The rail itself was standard enough, but the arm attached to it was, of course, very modern (which I'm cool with).

Just wondering if any one knows whether it'll drop into existing holes on a Ludwig, or better yet whether someone has installed one.

Here it is...

Yes, I have a kit with one of those. As with many things by DW, it's way overbuilt. It looks "funny" to me. It works fine, though.

It WILL NOT retro-fit a Ludwig style rail consolette.

I use two of them with no issues. The one pictured I switched out the L arm for a short straight rod. Seems more stable. I think the hole in a Ludwig mount is too small to accommodate the DW rod coming off the rail. You'll have to try it.

Working on something completely different, I tried a 10.5 mm rod with a Ludwig mount yesterday. Didn't fit. You can just replace the L-rod with a 9.5 mm version, though. It's a $10 part from Gibraltar.

Wonder if the diameter of the rail itself is the same. I'm getting a virgin bass drum and plan to add a rail to it for the tom. I did love the stability of it.

I love vintage drums, but I love modern hardware equally. I usually don't care for DW, but their accessories are excellent.

Thanks BigE. Took a guess and ordered the quirly maple. It's a 16/10/13 with 6.5x13 matching snare.
