I picked up this Duplex Brass Snare a couple months a go and don't know where to start. I haven't worked on an old brass snare before, and this one is carrying decades of neglect.
Can anyone I.D. this drum? It appears to be a Duplex based on the throw off. I believe Slingerland used the same throw off on it very early "student" models. I'm guessing this is a 30's or 20's drum? The round wire snares appear to be in tact and I'm not sure if there's a trick in removing them.
The shell and hoops are brass. I think the clips are steel. It appears to have been nickel plated but the plating looks to be missing on sections of the shell, unless that's not what I'm seeing. Would this be a candidate for re-plating? Cost prohibitive?
