I have a 70's rogers base drum that has the remnants of duct tape glue on the wrap, any ideas on how to remove it

I stay away from Goof Off on wraps. I think it is much too harsh and can mar the finish. I try the Goo Gone spray gel, let it sit for a few minutes and then gently rub off with my thumb.
WD-40-let it sit and melt the adhesive. It works better if it's warm, the surface that is.Sometimes Goo-Gone will attack plastic surfaces, but I have never had that happen with WD-40.There is also PB Blaster-similar action, but I would not use it on a white set, since it has a dark color to it.
When I purchased my early 70's Stars, the wrap was ripped beyond repair. They have since been re-wrapped along with another tom and a Star cocktail drum. Even if the wrap could have been repaired, several strands of electricians tape used to keep the wrap on, had somehow eaten into the top layer of the wrap causing permanent damage. Nothing worked. There were some duct tape issues as well though. I found that mineral oil left to soak on the duct tape glue removed the residue.I wish I could have saved the wrap but, at least I found out about the effects of the mineral oil. Hope this might help.

hi there's basically 2 types of glue water base and petroleum base a little thinner as in mineral spirit wont harm the finish and will remove the glue, if it s water base a good strong soap solution will break it up for real tough spots alcohol good luck, always do SMALL TEST IN A HIDDEN AREA TO BE SURE, ON LUDWIG THE RAP CLEAR WILL DESOLVE WITH LACQUER THINNER BUT NOT MINERAL SPIRITS BE CAREFUL WITH ACETONE ALSO IT CAN REMOVE SLIGHT DISCOLORATIONS MARKERS ETC..GO SLOW MODERATE USE ONLY

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
Yea, I can say from experience, don't use goof off...

WD40...the main ingredient is fish oil. Now I'm curious if a glob of peanut butter sat on there awhile may help remove it.
Thanks for all the info everyone.
