Drum "repairman"

Loading...

Just wondering if any forum members are aware of a source in the metropolitan-Detroit area that does vintage drum maintenance and/or repair (i.e., minor bearing edge work, glueing areas of loose wraps, re-attaching wooden reinforcement rings, re-installing badges and grommets, etc.) at reasonable rates. I normally deal with Precision Drum but a capable local source would be greatly appreciated, if available.

THANKS in advance for your time and your help.

Drum foundry is in Zeeland. If nothing else, they may know of someone....

Hey OldSchool, that's all the fun stuff, why aren't you doing that yourself? Perhaps a little less typing, and a bit more sanding and gluing...?;)

I've often wondered about some of the more vocal members on the forum, and how they'd have the time to collect, restore, and play their kits, let alone do their jobs, and spend time with their families, etc., but then there is all the posting here, with full photo documentation... Don't get me wrong, I love this stuff, but I've been finding it hard to keep on top of all the documentation for my own projects, let alone get it all posted here on the forum. Guess we're not all into getting our hands dirty, but that is really a major part of the allure for me, bringing an old kit back to full function, and beauty, while getting fully familiar with each element and how it works. Maybe there's a VDF member local to you, that would be able to handle the work you need done, and be happy for the opportunity...?

latzanimal: Thanks so much for your time and the recommendation. I appreciate it.

DaddyNowhere: I can assure you that if I was capable of doing the work I need done I would do it and, I'm sure, enjoy it while doing so. However, as Clint Eastwood stated in one of his movies: "A man's got to know his limitations"! I'd much rather pay to have a qualified individual get the job done than have me cause more problems than already exist.

Daddy,

I think some guys really just like to document the process of their projects.

I know I am one. :D

I don't think it takes up a whole lot of time to snap some pics and post them up for people to see.

For instance, I'm going to be spending the time working on the stuff regardless of whether there are pics taken or not.

Taking a few pics can't take more than a few minutes.

For me personally I get on my computer before I go to sleep and I read through and try to participate in at least 3 or 4 message boards.

Usually an hour and a half to two hours maybe.

That is plenty of time to post your progress.

I like doing it myself but I don't think anyone around here is interested in what I do.

Every time I post something I get dead air. LoLoLoLo

That "dead air" is just the sound of dropping jaws. Beautiful wood working there. Those drums are jaw dropping gorgeous!
