Freedom of speech is just that, freedom of speech. If you have ever claimed to be a musician or artist of any sort then you have to stand up for freedom of speech. Whether or not not you agree with what is being said ( and yes that goes for having to read posts by over indulgent parents boasting about their spoiled children). This is a priviledge you will not enjoy in China.

Dream Cymbals are cool.. I'm still set on Istanbul Mehmet as my favorite.

In regards to the political battle... I think it's more the choice of words, than the general concept...

An appropriate response should be something like. Dream cymbals are made in China, and for political and economic reasons I can't support buying them. I would like to encourage everyone to think hard and research the reasons that led to my decision.

That's an appropriate response... although just a piece of fiction. I don't hate anyone, but I prefer to support US businesses and small cottage businesses. As much as I love my Istanbul's, if I thought that the money from them was leading to more terrorism in the world, I would halt buying them, and cite my reasons to anyone who may have considered a purchase.

My bet is that the people at Dream are working hard to make a quality product and take care of their families.. rather than take over the world economically.

I picked up my gun and earned my rights and freedoms. I served for seven long years. My wife retired after proudly serving for twenty-one years and my son and his wife are both serving. You ever get in my face again and question American Freedoms bought and paid for, I'll take it very personal. Again, back off. This is a freekin' vintage drum forum. You got a problem with some other country, then I suggest you pack up your old kit bag and smile your backside across the ocean and settle your score. Your words wreek of cowardice and ignorance. Put up or shut up. Either way, take this crap somewhere else.

Boycott all Chinese goods whenever possible. China has had only one main agenda since the Communist take over, and that is the overtaking of our country, the U.S.A. If you won't boycott for patriotic reasons, then you should for humanitarian reasons. China is still one of the most oppressive regimes in the world.

I don't think anyone in China was thinking about overtaking the U.S. when the Communist Ƥarty came to power in 1949. They would've been much more concerned with domestic matters like the Kuomintang.

Well-intentioned but possibly misguided patriotism aside, I personally prefer to buy goods produced in countries that have fair labor policies and laws that require employers to pay their workers a fair minimum or living wage. That way, if they earn my dollar, they did so on fair competitive grounds with their counterparts in America and elsewhere.

As for "freedom of speech", here's the actual text of the First Amendment:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

As it pertains to an Internet forum, the First Amendment says the U.S. government has no authority to prevent you from speaking your mind here, but (thankfully) there's no law telling the forum operators they have to tolerate it.

But back to the original topic, which we were so rudely guided away from...

Wish I could've come! Hopefully someone will take your idea and run with it, and host something that's a little closer than a 9-hour drive for me!

"I picked up my gun and earned my rights and freedoms."

I always wondered who to thank for beating back the Hun.

"Put up or shut up."

Your threats ring hollow. Is that the best argument you can use to express your "intellectual" point of view?

Seriously, both you and Jonnicakes should start a band together.

Slappy,

Are you always this emotional? Speaking of being girl like! I simply stated my thoughts on helping to support the Chinese government, and now all of the forums "great minds" are acting like the Chinese government. This is supposed to be an adult forum, and I am quite surprised at the juvenile responses I have received from some members. Whether anyone agrees with my thoughts is irrelevant. What matters to me is that I can express myself without having to regress to the first grade.

Your internet posturing says more about you then you realize.

Please, have a bit of mercy. I know when I've been bettered. You are so superior to all of us on this forum. I'm ... I'm ... well ... I will admit it. I'm ashamed of myself to even attempt at locking horns with you. You, a man of many words and talents. I have .. no, WE have learned a lesson here. We are humbled. You cast a large shadow and have made some very good points. I will never knowingly purchase anything from China again. In fact, I'll stop eating Chinese food, just to be on the safe side. You are to be admired for your willingness to stand up and speak your mind. Your freedoms are vibrant and strong. You wear them well. Go in peace, man among men. Let this be the end. You have beaten us all. Be proud and victorious. GOD Bless America and GOD Bless you. flowers2
