Hi, i was just curious as to just how many people gig and rehearse their vintage drums on this forum.and what style of music's mostly been played on here.Or do you collect to keep them in pristine condition?I gig my 1960 ludwig kit(13.16.20) 2 or 3 times a month and rehearse twice a week with it ,it's my main kit. i play in a garage/ punk/ surf bandthanks for your time!

I play modern day snare drums and drumsets...I collect vintage snare drums from the 1900s to the 1940s (a few 1950s in there too) and display them as they were 75-10 yrs. ago., original equipment, calf heads, gut/silk-wound/Snappi wires...I have no problem with the viewpoint of playing vintage drums I just personally don't like the sound therefore I see no use in setting up (changing) those snare drums to be played in a modern setting, so my vintage stuff is in museum quality and displayed proudly while my modern stuff gets played...I have close to 500 snare drums so not all of them would get played anyway...

I gigged my vintage Kent/Leedy set for the first time today and I have to say, I enjoyed every second of it. The drums performed very well and sounded very vintage - we were playing Blues (mainly Lil' Walter stuff).

I'm a firm believer in vintage drums and modern hardware (snare/cymbal stands, kick pedals, etc...). I used the Kent tom mount and it held perfectly (as did the kick drum legs and center mounted cymbal arm). They look a tad cheesy, but they work just fine.

I can't wait for the next gig to show off these relics!
