Djembes Are Taking Over!

Loading...

Or am I the only one who has noticed this? Use the search word “Drum” on Craigslist, Goodwill Online, or anywhere, it seems, and you’ll get djembes at a ratio of two to every acoustic drum return.

I have probably heard djembes in music but didn’t know it. I have never played one, seen one played in person, or spoken to anyone who has talked about playing one, yet there is one for sale for every man, woman and child!

Seriously, do any of you play them? If so, why are there so many for sale?

I truly don’t mean to offend any djembe player out there. I am seriously wondering if there is an entire djembe movement that has passed me by.

Ever since titanic they were made famous

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

My very first drum was a djembe. It's a nice thing, very versatile and easy to play. These days, however, if I wanted something portable, I'd go for a cajon.

Josh,

Yes, there is an entire djembe movement you're overlooking... Drum Circles!

For whatever reason, thousands of non-drummers have become obsessed with gathering into a circle and beating on this particular drum for hours on end. This obviously has created a high demand. I sat in on a drum circle once just to get an understanding of the appeal. It was lost on me.
