Difference between radio king and sound king.

Loading...

Hi Guys,

I picked up a 1951 Slingerland bass drum and mounted tom which were sold to me as Radio king model now I've found a 1957 floor tom to go with them but he has it listed as a sound king model...could someone help me with what the difference is.

Thanks,

Gregg.

Pretty sure that the Radio kings were 1 ply steam bent. The Sound kings were ussually 3 plies.

As for snares, it has to have the radio king strainer to be a radio king. Ive seen many sound kings that are falsely advertised as radio kings.

There might be more to it, which someone else can add.

Radio kings had wide reinforcement rings and beavertail lugs, sound kings had narrower reinforcement rings and the modern streamlined soundking lugs.
