Slingerland,

Hey, I know that it's been years since I was in your position, but your thread really brought up some memories so I thought I'd share. Especially in light of something special that happened just a couple of weeks ago!

I've played in several bands, mostly Rock (70s) Country-Rock, or Country (yes, played in the school jazz-band in HS and college, but not much call for that in the Central Plains!). The best times I ever had in the business was a simple 3 pc band that we all got along great, which I discovered back then was the most important element. Don't get me wrong -- the other two guys were excellent musicians -- but the chemistry we had was what made us click.

Talent wise, the best band I was ever in was in the mid-70s, BUT NEVER got off the ground. A 6 pc band that did a lot of Eagles type of music. The lead guitar/lead singer who actually started the group was probably one of the best musicians I had ever worked with -- but he was such a perfectionist that it had to be an OCD with him, 'cause he's what drove the bad apart after a few months of SERIOUS rehersals. The trio I mentioned above came out of that break-up (and one of those I had played with in another band as well).

BTW -- our trio actually broke up around 1980. We had the option of signing on with an agency in KC that would have put us on a night-club circuit through-out the mid-west, but our lives were just going in different directions by then. Over the years I had lost track of my band mates... until having the opportunity to meet with one of them for the first time since around 1982 just a couple of weeks ago! Talk about a 'trip down memory lane!' We had a great time catching up, and I truly miss that chemistry!

So... be with great guys and have fun!

Bill
