John thanks for the pics~! Looks like you and Bev had a good time. That's cool she made the trip with you. And lot and lots of cool drum stuff to poke around at too!! Very nice show! Hope you scored a few things. Bummer to hear not many sales. I do some guitar shows with my son in venues like that and one day shows normally run $200-300 per booth and $400 and up for 2 day shows. He was doing the 2 day NY Amp show in Secaucus NJ this weekend. That ran him $450. Plus gas, food etc..... gets expensive. The high end shows are well over $1000 per booth for 2 days.

Yep, I felt bad for some of the smaller independents. I had one guy tell me at 3pm, an hour before closing that he had made one $10. sale the entire day. The booth was costing him $200. for the day. Not to mention the gas, wear and tear on the vehicle and all the labor involved. Some of those guys took a bath today. Not well attended at all. Shame too, lots of neat stuff to be had.

Well hopefully they each made some good contacts that might net some future sales from the show. My son rarely sells a guitar at these shows but gets a lot of sales and repair work afterwards from people he meets at the shows. But yes I agree a lot of money time and effort from the vendors goes into each booth. Wish they had a better day.

Ya it looks like a lot of guys missed out on a very good drum show. My wife went with me to the Chicago show. Thanks for the pics!

Jeff - Man, it really helps when your partner is supportive of your passions. Bev is great company for me, she's knowledgeable and she takes a genuine interest in my beloved hobby.

We're both very lucky to have partners we can share our love of music/drums with. I've experienced the opposite before. -This- is better! Kiss

Great posts Purdie. Good to put a face to the name. You should put out a country album - looking good! Bowing

It's cool when your wife says "take the gig! We'll come too . . " and you think "Great!" Very important I think. All the best.

Well my wife isnt really too much into drums but she likes that it makes me happy and she likes seeing the cool wraps. When I go out of town looking for drums she likes to tag along and we usually make a day of it with lunch or dinner at restaraunt somwhere. So yes, her participation makes the experience much better. Have a good day!

One observation... The guys who attend these vintage shows tend to be old baby-boomers like me. Guys that were playing in the 60's, 70's. I didn't see very many young drummers at the show. A majority of the crowd was 'over 40' and many well over 50!

As I looked out across the room, all I could see was a coterie of grey-haired heads bobbing up and down.

Some in pony-tails! lol
