Date these ludwigs please?

Loading...

I have a 15 inch and a 14 inch.

both have the same badge but the 15 has some damage.

I'm assuming the throw off has been replaced on the 15.

I'm very unfamiliar with these Ludwig badges can someone date them?

The 15 came with Ludwig snares wires and the 14 came with plastic ended snare wires that had a pat. number on them. I switched those wires with Ludwig wires from my jazz festival.

any knowledge would be appreciated!

I would date these drums to the 1935-1940 era, based on the catalogs I have on hand.

* In 1933 the hoop "clamps" are different and use thumb screws.

* In 1935 I see the appearance of the same hardware and badging you have in your photos.

* The 1940 catalog runs the same equipment; I have a catalog gap that then picks up again in 1949, however those drums have a keystone type badge at that point.

EDIT: Unfortunately the site isn't going to let me upload attachments for some strange reason???

But the 10"x14" is called a Junior Parade Drum (No. 257) and the 10"x15" is called a Economy Parade Drum (No. 256).

OK... computer restart and I can upload!

The '35 catalog I have is a bit blurry so I posted a screen shot of the '37 catalog (1st image).

The '40 catalog (2nd image) is the last photo I see of the drum due to a gap in catalog sequence I have. I'm not sure if Ludwig was allowed to print catalogs during the war era due to material issues???. The other image from the '40 catalog is the trademark badging (3rd image).

Thank you Hoppy! I appreciate you uploading the catalogs! I want to start my own catalog collection! I didn't know they were that old! I've never come across that particular badge! just the round bandge.
