That's right. Read my previous post on Dino's health issues.
His playing days are over, unfortunately, but the truth is, Dino was a shadow of himself, even as far back as 1988, when I saw The Rascals reunion tour. He had slowed down considerably, and when I saw The Rascals on Broadway, he was even worse. The whole concert is up on YouTube. I watched it again a few weeks ago.
Now, I realize we all slow down as we age, but the difference was shocking. Dino simply had none of the fire he had years ago. Even when I saw him with Fotomaker in the 70's, his drumming was just adequate, which saddened me greatly. Same with the Disciples of Soul recordings.
It's inevitable that we're going to lose our drumming heroes eventually. Losing Charlie Watts was devastating to me. I have a real hard time watching Steve Jordan back there. And I like Steve Jordan's playing. It's just not...Charlie.
Seeing Dino degrade and turn into a tired old rock drummer was heartbreaking.
