Cutting edge cracks out . . .

Dudes, I have a super small edge crack on a 70's A medium light ride.

I love this ride and don't want the edge crack to spread, seems to never

get worse and I have sharpied a arrow on the playing side so I can always

make sure not to even hit near it.

How do you dudes cut edge cracks out? I do tons of carpenter related

hands on stuff with work so I can handle the tools, but just need

some keen advice from the cymbal experts up in here!

Thanks in advance :)

I use a jigsaw with fine toothed blade for a very gently rounded cutout, then hand file and fine sand paper.

Here's the edge of an old Avedis Zildjian where I cut out a crack:

Cool man, thanks for that. You didn't get nervous using a jigsaw

possibly making the crack worse? Super fine blade must be the key.

BTW, are you selling something on eBay right now? I think I sent you a message

about a item you have on there if it's the same mountainhick. :)

I used Tin snips for a couple of 16" K's that were cracked. Then I filed and sanded the edge smooth. . . .James

To stop a crack in an aluminum aircraft skin we drill a small hole (1/8" or less) at the very end of the crack. Seems like that should work on cymbals as well. (??) You probably wouldn't want to strike the cymbal hard in the area of the crack however.

Cool, thanks for the tips guys! I think I did see something on vintage cymbal guide web site in a ZIldjian scan about drilling the hole and the end of the crack but they say it won't stop the crack forever, and have to totally cut it out and grind the cymbal down to a flat edge. I keep thinking of that Morello A that he had the chunk taken out to 'help' it's sound or something...
