I bought a really messed up mij kit last summer along with a Acrolite (1968) and spurlock hihat. The drums were red sparkle. The bass drum was good but the 12" tom had the wrap removed and painted red. The 13 tom had serious cracked wrap. The floor tom had one leg mount that had broken thru the shell. I just recently bought a bunch of parts from a kid that answered my CL add "we buy old drums". So I was able to replace most of the missing parts with that purcahse. One day I was chatting with "Bunnyman" about sparkle finishes. He directen me to www.paintwithpearl.com. I bought some orange copper sparkle and tried it out. The results were good. Nothing at all like a vintage sparkle wrap, you cant re-do that.
