Copper Hi-Hat Cymbals

Loading...

Hello, friends!

On ebay.ca, there is a 14 inch copper hi-hat cymbal up for auction. Has anyone had any experience with copper cymbals? To me, copper might be too soft a metal but, I am not a cymbal expert or even a novice. Just curious.

Thanks.

That isn't a copper cymbal. This seller is simply laboring under this misapprehension that its a copper cymbal. It appears to have resulted from the way that its tarnished. There are no copper cymbals.

Copper is too soft. ( some folk lump copper, brass & bronze together, but there is a world of difference, especially for cymbals).

Well the major component of cymbals is copper. B20 brass is 80% copper and 20% tin. usually there's a little (less than 1%) other metals in the mix.

Drumaholic is correct. Copper and brass can mimick each other when tarnished. It all depends on what caused the tarnishing. I have one 12" cymbal here, with a 3/16" hole. At first , I thought it was nickel plate but it is actually tin plate. Some of the plating is worn off and underneath is what looks like copper but just around the hole where it was seated on a narrow feltless flange at one time, is shiney brass. Needless to say it is a miserable excuse for a cymbal.
