Competing with Ebay Last viewed: 4 hours ago

I am on good terms with ebay - but the fees are getting a bit high, especially considering the robbing when they collect fee on SHIPPING.

Some people just don't like ebay for whatever reason (perhaps screwed on a deal and blame 'the system' (ebay))

Like I said - I am on good terms with Ebay. At the same time, I am wondering if there are other sites that are competing with ebay.

Any?

Of course we all have alternatives like CL, Forum FS section, etc. etc. but I am wondering about any auction sites.

Might as well throw this out there - anyone know anything about/ had any experienced using or buying - at www.Reverb.com ?

(or any others as well)

Funny you mention Reverb.com. I just bought a Slingerland tom shell on there day before yesterday. I was impressed with how it is set up. Purchasing is super easy and the communication and follow up has been great so far. I'll circle back once I receive the shipment for a complete review. For selling, they charge a 3.5% fee and it is maxed at $350.

Just chatted with an agent of theirs.

I understand that the seller fee is 3.5% with a $350 fee max. So, 3.5% all the way up to a $10,000 selling price - after that it is the flat $350 seller fee no matter how high the selling price.

He represented that there are no plans to increase the seller fee rate as it gets bigger and that they have ambitions to compete with Ebay. Based in Chicago, gbase is another competitor.

Apparently one of their biggest priorities is to provide a better marketplace for musicians - many musicians themselves.

For more info from Reverb - contact Dan Orkin at dano@reverb.com

Honestly guys - not my intention to just promote Reverb here. I am not affiliated with them - just thought I would share info as I got it.....They seem promising though.

They only offer their own items. Private seller cannot list items. Some good bargains if you time it right.

Wondering...how does eBay get away on charging us on shipping? Is that even legal?

Makes you not want to ship international...

What if you sold a drumset to Oz,and shipping was $500...how much do they get...?

Their flat 10% on that too?>>So,$50 less in your pocket now?

thanks for the info on reverb. i never heard of it and might have to check it out.

as much as i like ebay i stopped selling on there awhile ago. its not worth it to sell on there anymore and i read all the complaints on all the forums about paypal/ebay.

thankfully i've been selling thru my site. sure, i don't have a million eyes on my stuff, but i only need one person who wants a fair deal and i sell just fine. but i would like another outlet for selling.
