Hi All,
Ok, so I buy some old Rogers drums based on photos and a minimal description. I figured I'd restore em and either keep them for myself as a gig kit, or flip them. I 'thought' I was purchasing a black wrap kit, or black lacquer set of drums. Again, based solely on just a few photos.
Well, they arrived today. Looking very dusty, dirty, unused and... they had been -painted- black some time back, judging by the years-old layers of dirt and gunk on these drums. My first reaction was, 'Oh, $hit, I just threw away several hundred dollars on crappola I'll never be able to sell.'
So, just for the Halibut, I stripped down the 13" rack tom (Cleveland label) and commenced to strip off the black paint just to see what was under there. I used, Citistrip, which is a safe stripper to use when removing paint from wrap.
I won't keep you in any more suspense... MARDI GRAS!!!
I'll post some photos soon, I'm still in 'mid-strip', but as soon as one drum is completed, I'll post a bunch of shots.
Can you believe it? I'm out of my mind happy and jumping for pure joy. Not only are these Cleveland Rogers drums, but in one of the rarest finishes too! The Drum-Gods are smiling on Johnny tonight. I must have accumulated some real good karma by restoring so many old kits over the years to deserve this outrageous score. I'm blown away. Clapping Happy2Clapping Happy2Clapping Happy2:D
Photos to follow... (I included a photo I found of the wrap, but it is of another kit. Not the one I'm working on. Sample only!)
