I just picked up a 1959 Ludwig Pioneer, and the duco finish is not in great shape, but I'd like to keep it as-is, and protect it from any further deterioration. I saw a note here about cleaning duco:

...but there wasn't a lot of detail. Anyone have any further suggestions about, 1., cleaning the duco paint (and the few raw wood places where it has already chipped away), and 2., protecting it? Would a typical car cleaner/wax do the trick? Is there anything recommended as a wax or sealant for protection?
If anyone is interested, I'll post some pics.
Thanks.
