Ive never been one to clean cymbals. I have a guy I did some work for and part of the deal was he wanted me to clean his cymbals. This is basically the only reason I'm doing this.
This thread isn't meant to be a debate as to why or why not you should or shouldn't clean your cymbal though. I'm simply asking those that DO clean their cymbals for advice on how to go about it safely. The customer already told me he's not worried about them losing their ink.

I use AMWAY metal cleaner. I rub it into the grooves with a rag, then rinse with tap water and dry. They look like new and sound beautiful!
I never cleaned a cymbal in 45 yrs..until recently. I had a lot of time to do this so I went and cleaned 8 cymbals at one time. Wrists are a bit sore, but I'm sorry I waited so long. Playing with clean cymbals gives the kit a fresh look, and I'm sorry, but I hear no difference at all. Not really sure who convinced the industry that dirty cymbals sounded better?. I'm not talking patina, I love natural patina, but dirt?....no thanks
I find it easier to clean them in the bathtub. I just put an old towel in the tub to keep from scratching it.
It will take the logos off.
Yep, Barkeepers friend , bathtub, warm water and plastic scrub brush. A little elbow grease and they will look like they just left the factory.
