Civil War era snare?

Loading...

Happy New Year everyone. Came across this old snare in an antique shop. Don't know much about these, but it's pretty cool. Anyone have a guess as to its age or manufacturer? These are the only pics I have. I could probably get it for around $50 maybe 60. Thanks in advance.

I believe that's post-CW. Probably turn of the century. The CW drums I have seen are deeper.

I think that from whatever era it is, it is beautiful! I wish I had found it!

Civil War drums usually have no metal parts.

That's probably a "Lodge Drum" from later in the 1800's?

Metal tension like that is common in the 1900's-1920's. Maybe a WWI ish drum with the US.

That snare drum is probably much later than the Civil War. I'm guessing the turn of the century or later. There actually were some snare drums during or shortly after the Civil War that had metal claws, but they did not look like the claws on this drum.

1890-1920 most likely a Lyon and Healy, look inside for a paper label. Lyon and Healy also made drums for Boston drum builders who would tweak and re sell them under different names. Here is my Lyon and Healy in very nice shape
