Im looking at buying some lugs for the Slingerland shell that some nice person sent me. I saw 16 nob lugs for 50.00 and thought that sounds like a good deal. Is there any reason to not buy these? Im sure the rest of the hardware on my Slingerland kit is chrome, will the nickel finish look out of place?

I would suggest you wait to get matching hardware. When new, nickel & chrome are brilliant (though slightly different), & may make a better match. However they age very differently, Chrome gets uglier w/ pitting, peeling & rust, whereas Nickel gets grayer, more like the soft look of pewter ( I prefer this look vs aging chrome). So, whether they clash depends on the age of your NOB lugs, & the age of the chrome.
On the other hand, this distinction may not bother you at all, & most probably won't even be noticed by non drummers, & audiences.
Whenever I buy something , I always consider future sales,(you know , things happen in life that bring this about). Matching hardware will help you recover your $$.
tdennis, thanks for chiming in. I think I will wait for chrome. The pics in the ebay listing are kinda dark so thats why I asked, I couldnt tell how shiney they were.

If i remember correctly (im hoping another member will correct me if not ��), Slingerland ever so slightly changed the lug hole spacing in the 70's. I believe the 70's lugs also have different mounting screws than the older Slingys. Anyway, hope all is well!

Slingerland's "1955" lug spacing hasn't changed. It's been the same for tom, bass and snare lugs. Even repro lugs are the same!

Ok, whos right here, lol. Did they change hole spacing or not? And what about the floor tom leg mounts, did those hole spacing change when they went from the push button to the wing nut style? Anybody know when that change occured?

Ludwig Imperial lugs came out in 1935 > (?) and they are STILL using the same ones!

Pretty sure the floor tom leg mount hole space stayed the same too. I wasn't aware the lugs changed either. My son's 68 slingy kit has a festive blend of 60's and 70's lugs and hardware. It all fit together just fine.
