CB Wristwatch resto...

So I have a number of early 80's wristwatch CB 700's, and am considering a resto-mod of this configuration- 12+13 concert toms on a stand,18 ft,22 virgin bass. These particular drums are the silver foil wrap which has delaminated. The choice is either strip and recover or strip, multiple coats of filler-primer with sanding in between and paint . I have a good friend that paints cars and would do it pretty much for the cost of materials. Besides the wrap the drums are in very good shape. And I purchased a matching 5 1/2 x14 wristwatch snare. Any thoughts besides the usual firewood, trash day etc? Solid color wraps are pretty reasonable and would be period-correct.

I google imaged these drums and they're not too particularly offensive. :)

I tried to disappear the vertical grain on some Stewarts a few years ago and I could not do it. I'm not a pro like your friend though. But to me, part of the appeal of lacquered drums is the ever-so-slight telegraphing of the horizontal grain through the paint, especially as it ages. Wood veneer is a solution and not too pricey - I think I could do a 4-piece for about 40 bucks using the packaged stuff up the street here.

I would try to somehow make them special - unique paint job or one of the cooler wraps, but I understand inexpensive is maybe the key here...

I bought a portion of the Daddy's Junky Music drum stuff when they liquidated. Two drums are a Tony Williams yellow that actually looks pretty cool. I absolutely agree with the "telegraphing". If I can do them up in yellow wrap for $100 or so that's the route I'll take. If not it's plan B...

Too bad that silver wrap is delaminating, it looks a cut above, kinda lux really. Solid colours shouldn't be too costly, silver or yellow, looking forward to pics...
