Carlton Dallas-London Vintage Drums - Advice Please

Loading...

My father recently passed away. He was a drummer in a trad jazz band and left me a vintage Carlton (Dallas-London) kit which I don't know much about. Does anyone know the age, series and value of my kit?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Aaron

Hi Mikey,

Thanks for the info, much appreciated. I have tried searching ebay's closed items but still not sure on the value of the Carlton drums. Only a limited number of Carlton drums seem to be traded on ebay. Not sure if that is a good or bad thing?

The kit also contains old 18" and 20" Zildjian (made in Turkey) Cymbals and Zildjian hi-hat. These seem to fetch various different sums upto £180 each depending on the age/series but i'm none the wiser i'm afraid.

I wonder, is there an route for valuation?

Thanks

Aaron

hi Aaron,Here is a few things that will help you with the value of the drums/cymbals/ete..If you could post some very good up-close photos of the cymbal stamps under "vintage cymbals" on this forum.A member of the name of "Drumaholic" knows vintage cymbals even has a web-site about them...He would be your best bet to get a value on the cymbals..Also on this forum another member to ask about your drums is "Mike Ellis" he also has a web-site all about the time line ete on drums made in the UK...I think he would be able to give you a hand....Mikey

Tread carefully here: you may find that the set of cymbals is worth £1000 just by themselves. Turkish Made K Zildjians are worth lots these days. And depending on the year and weights a set of A Zildjian hats might fetch a pretty price. Drumaholic will put you right if you post the pics and weights in the Vintage Cymbals section. You will need closeups of the stamps and may also need overall pics of the cymbals. You may be happy at the answers you get. But watch out for lowball offers.

Thanks Mikey - I've taken some good close up shots of the drums and cymbals so will get them up-loaded and contact the guys you mentioned.

Thanks Zenstat - hear you load and clear, want them to find a good home, its what the old man would have wanted.

Hi,

Funnily enough I saw Honey Langtree of the Honeycombs behind a set of Carltons (emblazoned right on the kick) just last night on Youtube.

I got stuck into the NME awards shows from 64 and 65 and there she was--and there the Carltons were. Here's the link: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-juca-sFWBU[/ame]

After that my experience with Carltons is all pipe band. They were exemplary snare drums up to the time Kevlar heads upended the pipe band world--very similar--no surprise--to Premier. I have one old pipe band Carlton beater serving as a floor tom on my practice kit.
