Can you identify this drum?

Loading...

Greetings,

We are an acoustic music shop in Maryland, attempting to find some information on an antique gut snare drum for a customer. We don't deal much in these kinds of instruments so we're hoping the experts here can help. I have pictures but can't seem to get them to post. I can e-mail them directly--contact me at lessons@hmtrad.com

This is a metal-shell drum with wooden rim, natural skin heads and a multi-piece leather/gut snare mechanism. The diameter of the head is about 16". The depth of the drum is 8.25" including the wooden rims. There are 8 lugs but one is missing.

The drum needs some repair, but the customer wants to sell it--could this be potentially valuable or just an interesting-looking wall-hanger?

Would be best if anybody with information can contact me directly at lessons@hmtrad.com. Thanks!

Without seeing a picture...odds are that if it's 16" drum with wood hoops, and gut snares, more than likely it's a "wall hanger" and not real valuable...
