Camco parts, wrap

Loading...

Hi folks, I am going to be working on my silver sparkle Camco kit again now that I have found a few more parts. One thing I would really like to have is some silver sparkle wrap to plug hole with and make inlays for a hoop. If anyone has such a thing please contact me.

I attached a photo so you can see my wrap has a slight ginger fade to it.

Thank you!

Jeff - It's going to be mission impossible to find silver sparkle wrap that is ginger-aled exactly the same shade as what's on your kit. Consider buying a piece of new silver sparkle and then experiment with a light, transparent honey colored stain until you match the ginger ale on the drums. Staining would be easier than finding a piece to match. It's only small plugs for some holes and a couple of strips for the inlays. Easier to buy new and stain. Maybe add stain to clear lacquer until you hit the shade.

A 'severe' alternative would be to cut back the wrap about 1/2" back from the bearing edges on the bass drum shell to use for inlay strips! The heads will cover the cut-back so no one will see it and you'll have your matching strips for the hoops. It's an extreme measure though, altering the original factory wrap job. Won't hurt the kit cosmetically though, no one will see it.

I did get some new wrap last year when I first got the kit. It was not close at all, but I did not think about coloring the wrap somehow. I doubt that my lacquer would stick to a new wrap. Cutting wrap from the shell is out of the question, I don't want to do that.

What do you think about this Gretsch wrap?

The links not showing, Jeff. Try posting it again.

You can rough up the new wrap with some 220, the lacquer will stick.

I've used amber lens spray paint as well as gold from krylon to match a new wrap to old. But it NEEDS to be a thin paint. Krylon is good because it's cheap, so it's thin. Rustoleum on the other hand is always a thicker paint. Go for the cheap one. Gives you more room to apply coats. But as anything, it's always experimental.

Thanks guys!

I did win the vintage Gretsch wrap ( from the 60's) and it looks like it will work perfect.

Thank you!
