Camco experts!

I have been slowly bringing back a one-owner, players kit that was purchased from a music store Anchorage, Alaska in 1965 (Blue Moire, 12-14-20). It's got the heavy early lugs and first generation rims. The build quality is very apparent.

My issue is with the internal damper. They vibrate/buzz like a damn tuning fork. when I hit the toms. I kind of celebrate this as a testament to the wonderful resonance of the Camco line, but rather than remove it, I would prefer another solution.

So, has anybody dealt with this before and have a fix?

Do you find the "head" of the damper loose? If so, wrap some fishing line around the shaft just below the "head" to tighten the assembly up...I have done this with a few dampers and it seemed to have helped...

Hopefully, I have explained it clear enough...

Cheers

Thanks grantro, I'll give that try.

I've also noticed a small "C" clip on the top side that seems to be holding the mute cup to the worm drive. That could be the issue too.

Not till May. I'm stuck in another state for awhile.

But I will, once I get back.

A cut rubber band wrapped under the muffler head works well, too.

I find that in time, the rubber dries out, becomes brittle and falls apart...

You’re correct, but my experience has been that it lasts years and is an easy enough re-fix. Next time, though, I’ll give the fishing line solution a try. Hadn’t thought of that. Thanks!

OK. I finally have pics of the muffler in question. Upon inspecting it, I don't see any way a rubber band or floss will work. Has anybody been able to adjust these to keep them from buzzing?

Does the pad seem loose at all?

Maybe take the C clip off and the muffler pad. Should be able to see a way to put something under the pad before remounting to put some small pressure clip when back in place.
