Bun E. Carlos

Loading...

Does anyone know the full story of why Bun E. Carlos left Cheap Trick? I heard him say, they told him not to show up for a gig and basically gave him the boot. Robin Zander says he had back problems and couldn't perform. I also heard that he and Zander didn't get along. It seems even with the big bands, drummers don't get much respect, Danny Saraphine was kicked out of Chicago for no apparent reason and Steve Smith from Journey.

Btw, I saw Bun E. Carlos and Danny Saraphine on the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame show that is being aired on HBO. Both performed like champs and Danny Saraphine gave a rousing speech.

Admittedly not a huge Cheap Trick fan only by my laziness but I'll admit their Rock HOF performance sent a few chills through me. I loved Buns drumming

as we like to gossip about our favorite bands, BEC is a member here.

he recently left or is taking time away from DFO (not sure which) but either way he wrote something to the effect of, "i'll be over at that other vintage site". i'm guessing he meant this forum.

if bun is going to spend more time here on the board then we should think about what we post regarding him or CT. i wouldn't want him to feel uncomfortable on the drum forums.

let's all be cool.

Nicely put... Drummerfish....

And I reckon he handled the award night properly & came through with his dignity intact... (can't say the same of some others in attendance)..

Cheers

John

I was just curious why he left Cheap Trick. I love the band and his drumming, great Ludwig collection as well. I've been checking out his cover band, The Monday Night Band on YouTube, great players. It's so cool that he plays in these small venues in a cover band, like some of us do. You don't see that too often with someone of his stature.

Theres a plague of legendary bands disrespecting their original drummers. The Black Sabbath/Bill Ward thing is just unbelievable! I heard they offered him 5% of the cake! 5% to the original drummer!

I've heard that for years Charlie Watts has been paid a set fee to play the Stones' tours, while Mick and Keith pocket a percentage of the proceeds. If true, I'm sure Charlie is paid well, but it just seems weird.

Never play it the same way once.
