Just watched the video on you tube of Cheap trick live at Budokan playing Southern Girls. In the intro Bun E is using clear heads and on his right ride tom,the interior actually looks like an old Radio King shell with a mahogany interior and THREE THICK maple re-rings! Is it maybe a RK or very old Ludwig shell refinished to match the rest of his kit?

If you have or can get a copy of the album you will see the whole set is a 1940s RK but the snare is a chrome Ludwig....Mikey

Awesome color!!!x-mas3 And Bun told me he loved this kit, said it was one of his favorites, he played it into the ground literally. is what he said. He said it was just falling apart from use and abuse.
He keeps it in the "Bun E. Hutch" out behind his house,with all his other Amazing drums.
Cool info guys!I went on line and also saw him playing what looks like a champagne RK set,same sizes I think.I wonder if he re-did the bearing edges to give them a more modern sound. I've played my 40's RK's in rock situations but the toms are too round sounding for lack of a better description.
I imagine when Bun E said they were falling apart,he might have meant the ever popular 'exploding" pot metal beavertail lugs??
Anyway,very cool to know those tracks were recorded on 40's RK's!
During the Chicago show,he has people out to his place each year.............
I was there one year,and he had a 60's Sonor Teardrop kit.......
I asked what that was about.......He said it was his first kit!
