Bumping because i would like to see if this was finished... Looked like a cool project.
Progress has been slow... mainly because of gigging and trying to plan my wedding. I expect to get the ball rolling again within 2 months. Everything is in place, I just need to ship the bass drum and floor tom to Precision and have them rewrapped. I don't have "nice" replacement lugs just yet, but that should be easy enough, with eBay and all...
I'm putting my gigging set up on the local Craigslist soon, and that should help with financing the work on the vintage set. In the meantime, I'm looking for a single tension 18" bass drum than can be easily converted to an 18" floor tom. That would let the vintage set double as a "rock" setup and negate the need to have a 2nd set.
I'd like to add... I consider this a good way to recycle otherwise non-desirable vintage drums. the 10"x15" floor tom is an uncommon size, but should work well (I actually prefer more shallow sizes for toms, even floor toms, as I think they sound better). There's plenty of old marching and parade drums available that will otherwise not be used to their full potential. Why not give them a 2nd life?
