I'd heard the story of how Bonham wanted a double bass set after seeing Carmine Appice, only to have one bass drum hidden by the band! Stumbled on this pic!
Bonham Double Bass Last viewed: 4 hours ago
he got a dbl bass kit, but legend has it that jimmy wasn't into it live.
there's only a hand full of times were he did use dbl bass live. possibly up to 73 with the green spkl kit.

Such a great band! I've heard that tune a thousand times...never tire of it. Weird to think they were a bunch of kids when they recorded it!
Page stated John henry was to damn loud with both of those 26" thundering away behind him, so John henry would go take a smoke break to come back to his double bass kit now missing one of the bass drums a few times.
The way Carmine tells it is that Carmine got Bonham his first deal with Ludwig. Carmine told them to just send him the same set he was using. He then goes on to say that it was funny on that first tour to watch the audience when the crew would tear down one kit and then set up , what looked to be an identical kit right after.... LoLoLoLo
Awesome pics and footage.......what a drummer....what a band! We almost take Led Zeppelin for granted sometimes. There are also those that think they are over played and tired of hearing the name of the band.......when you watch this 69' footage, how can ANY musician not say that this is one of the greatest bands to ever exist.....for then....for now....forever....flowers2
They are one of the greatest bands ever. But you have to admit thbat some song are way over played. If I never hear Heartbreaker again I'm good. Thanks commercial radio, there's a lot more than 6 Zeppelin songs. Anyway I've learned a lot listening to bonham play over the years and still hearing things not noticed before.
I've been playing for 30 years now and
Am still nowhere near bonzo!
