Hello gentlemen ! Just thought I'd post a pic of my recently acquired (3 wks ago) Bollero, 10 lug snare drum. I thought I was going to keep the older/ black oyster sparkle wrap on, but I decided to remove the wrap (insert gnashing of teeth here) and stain the kit in a horizontal stripe design. As I was browsing the internet for ideas for this, I came across DW's twisted rainbow exotic veneer drums and thought that it might look nice on this snare, and would cover up the luan mahogany nicely. I put 3 coats of stain and sanding between coats, then another 2 without sanding. The stain has poly in it already, giving a nice contrast between the stained and unstained stripes. However, tomorrow I begin the tedious task of spraying a poly lacquer, and doing about 7 coats and sanding in between. This will take about another week, as I live in a condo and don't have an appropriate room to do this, so I have to go down to my storage room in my garage every time to spray in a ventilated area. I don't mind, as I have some recently acquired time, and hey, it's fun ! ;) I ask that you please go easy on me, as this is my first attempt at doing this type of stain design. ;)..
Let me know what you guys think. Purist MIJ guys, i have already paid my respects to the snare's original look, so pls forgive me ! Here is a pic of the shell, and of a DW snare where I got the idea from.
Cheers,
Rob
