once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Gary - CONGRATS! That is great news. I'll tell you what, you've got the 'best of all worlds' type situation going on. You get to play and socialize without the grief, or the responsibility of being part of a group/band!

Band is; rehearsals, gigs, -work- having to be there and play regardless of convenience, or how you're feeling. It's a j-o-b. Jamming and playing with a bunch of different musicians, is fun and you grow as a player by leaps and bounds. More than that, it's a social event. You get to hang out with buddies and people of like mind... musicians, people who love music. That's what I miss, the social interaction, the opportunity to play with lots of different musicians, the fun of making spontaneous, in the moment music. Jamming is the best for that. I would rather have a good jam band to mess around with, than run around trying to pick up a few bucks at gigs with a working band. Honest, I got into music because I love playing it. I've never had a bad time at a jam session. In bands however, I learned about other people's ego and control problems, rip-off artists, and how many different and amazing ways there are for people to screw you over for a few dollars.

No thanks, I'll take a good jam session over a 'formal' band any day!

Break a leg, Gary. I wish I could show up one night and put my name on the list... we'd have a blast.

John

Too many great drums to list here!

If only I was closer to Chitown!! Have fun buddy! I go to sunday blues jam sessions a couple times a month at a local ice house, about a mile from my home. Always have a blast!
