Blue Oyster Pearl Ludwigs

Loading...

I am looking at a set of 12,13,16,20 Ludwigs in Blue Oyster Pearl. Early 70's with blue and olive badges.

They look really clean.

The bass drum hoop inlays are BOP. Someone mentioned recently that the inlays were originally silver sparkle.

Am I looking at a re-wrap?

thanks, they are really awesome.

Inlays should have matched the drums but that type of wrap hasn't been available in years so if someone lost the inlays (very possible) they might have tried to get the closest thing they could find.

I'm assuming you have the "bowling ball" version of Oyster Blue. a sheet or two of N.O.S. wrap in that color might turn up occasionally but it's been unavailable as new wrap for a long long time. I doubt that the drums in question would be rewrapped simply because it would be difficult to find any wrap in that color to use.

There have been some recent wraps that are somewhat similar and I'm sure Bum Wraps could whip some up (if they haven't already) if you wanted to put in better matching inlays.

As the owner of an original Bowling ball Blue Ludwig kit, the original inlays on the BD hoops ( as was mentioned here ) would have been the same as the wrap. I can't see why Ludwig would wrap a drum in BBB and then use silver sparkle for the BD hoop inlays

Thanks everybody.

I just brought them home. I am told that is the factory wrap on them, and boy are they clean. They look fresh out of the factory.

Pictures tomorrow!

I was a bit confused in my previous response as I thought you meant that you had Black Oyster inlays (my brain interprets BOP as black Oyster Pearl since that is what I own, LOL ) but yeah, the inlays should be matching to the wrap. Ludwig did sometimes use contrasting inlays (gold sparkle inlays with Blue sparkle sets in the early 60's) but generally, and especially with the oyster style wraps, the inlay matched the drum it was on.
