Black Beauty.Ludwig or Leedy?

I'm sure I will get many answers and opinions,but that's the idea.If money was not a problem(and it isn't because I have non),if the two drums are in the same condition and made at the same time period,which one ....LEEDY BLACK BEAUTY or LUDWIG BLACK BEAUTY should I consider for purchase?C'mon.....HIT ME WITH YOUR BEST SHOT!

Ludwig collection of sets and pioneer snare drums.
Example of Rogers,Slingerland,Gretsch,Premier and Ajax sets.
Various '60's and '70's US,English and Japanese snare drums.
HELP,NEED MORE SPACE!

You would definitely want the Leedy wooden Black Beauty over the Ludwig.

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!

I prefer the aesthetics of a single bead and the engraving patterns of Ludwig over the Leedy "elite" (Elite Professional or Black Elite) offerings.

Ludwig DeLuxes (Black Beauties) from the 1920s-30s command a higher price than the Leedy Elites and I think the Ludwigs are built better especially re the shells and the strainers. That being said there are a few Leedy engraved Black Elite models like the

7 x 14 Leedy Elite that are very rare and do command higher prices. If you want the ultra rare then you can move into the 1920s Slingerland Black Beauty area. There are only about 15 or so of the 5 x 14 Slingerland BBs, only 4 -5 6.5 x 14 Slingerland BBs and I have never seen a 4 x 14 Slingerland BB although it is listed in the 1928 catalog. There is another model from Slingerland that is extremely rare, it is the engraved Radio Model Dual (Black Beauty), there is only one of those known at this time.

Hoping not to derail the thread, but I'm confused. Please school me. Is the "Black Beauty" a style of snare that could be offered by different companies at the same time or is it a model name made by different drum companies at different periods of time?

Slingerland originally came up with the name "Black Beauty". Ludwig's version in the 1920s-34 was called The DeLuxe Model. Ludwig's Silver Anniversary (1935-36) engraved snare was called the Black Beauty. Leedy's version was called the Black Elite. C. G. Conn used the name "Tuxedo" for their black/engraved snare. Duplex used the name "Black ***el" for their black/engraved snares.

I think that early on, at least before the mid 20's, Leedy called their engraved drums Multi Model Classics. This was prior to the Black Elite name being used.

Well!That was GREAT!Got schooled again.I love the knowledge in this forum AND willingness to take the time to share it all.Of course,I was familiar with some of this info(probably 50 per cent or so)Got lots from this so far.Anyone else who would like to share,PLEASE feel,free to do so.
