Hello

Just got this old gal in my hands..

Its a barn find, very dirty.. I didnt find it but the seller got it at an estate sale and it shared a drum case with a fury friend. The original drummer owner played it his whole life. Its a players drum . Im just looking to clean it up . The pics here are after a light cleaning with a damp cloth . Three of the brass claws were damaged , One of the tube lugs has a small crack in a bulb . The black nickel plating is warn to about a 1/3 of the drum. Snares look good . Clutch works , the pics make the dents look worse than they are due to the reflections .. I am going to go to the 2nd clean up with soap and water to get some of the inbedded dirt off of it . No buffing or chemicals though .. bit of wd40 in the lugs and snare throw .

Any advice from you vintage gurus ..🙏🥁

Im ordering new parts (lugs claws rods ecr) to swap out so I can play this baby ..

Im mostly looking to have people chime in on what is used for just cleaning . Im going with soap and water .. Im not going to shine it up . Its got character ..But its seriously filthy. water doesnt cut it .. so im thinkig a dish soap shouldnt hurt it .. I cant imagine regular soap Taking the plating off , right ? and for a lubricant I have always used wd-40 should work here as well ..

Dish soap, warm water and a soft tooth brush. WD-40 is, well, crap. Good for drying your distributor cap.

Get some white lithium grease at the bike shop if you don't have any. If you need to wash out old coagulated grease WD-40 is good for that. Then an alcohol rinse and finally fresh lithium. It will work great and once it's worked in it will stay there. Just wipe off the excess.

If you do end up wanting it "new" again, I'm a big fan and user of CLR to soak stuff overnight. It works great and can be diluted with water. But i like the idea of just cleaning and dish soap and water will work great. Make sure to dry it to avoid water spots or stains.

Good idea's .. made me laugh too..

Wd-40 is not your fav.. I have the lithium greese will try it out ..

What does the alcohol do? Removes the greasey film?

Okay Ill send some pics when I get through these cleaning steps ..
