Should produce two different sounds.

Birch: aggressive and brighter tone; enhanced lows and highs offer a good balance of tone to crispness.

Mahogany: strong low end makes for a very rich, warm tone and its enhanced mid range gives extra punch.

Of course the make up of the middle ply will have an effect as well.

Never play it the same way once.

My signature says it well...

I prefer the wider Tuning range of (all) birch shells and the fact I can have two kits by changing Batter heads.
