Bicentennial Black Beauty

Loading...

I'm a newbie and much to my chagrin, I have wasted no time in making my first faux pas, having inadvertently posted the following in the gallery. Thanks for the correction, apologies for the mistake.

I bought a new 14x6.5" Ludwig Black Beauty with a P-85 Super-sensitive strainer in 1976. I remember paying a bargain price of about $350 and being told it was a "Bicentennial re-issue Black Beauty." I didn't buy it to collect, as a vintage drum, although it has become vintage. It was and still is my "Daily Driver" and continues to be the standard by which, I measure other snare drums.

I read on the Black Beauty site that BBs were reintroduced in 1977, which causes me to wonder if my "76" is more rare than I had previously thought. Is anyone familiar with that period of time and the relationship to the Bicentennial BB?

Welcome to the forum.

Post some pics of the drum with the badge and serial number.

I've never seen a bicentennial BB,and always though that they were reintroduced in 77 .

Just a point of info, the standard BB's came with the P-85 strainer, and the supersensitive came with the P-70.
