Bearing Edge Repair Question!

Hi there,

I have recently acquired an old gretsch snare in great condition. The bearing edges on the snare are in fantastic condition except for one tiny spot which has a little flea bite nick in it. The nick is probably 1mmx1mm or so, it was too small to capture in a photo but is visible to the eye and can be felt when running my finger over it.

I'm wondering if this warrants a bearing edge repair (professionally done). I'm assuming not but am just wondering how bad a bearing edge needs to be to warrant recutting/professional repair.

While it could be fixed with a suitable filler.... It won't make any difference. I'd ignore it if it was me.

Rub a white candle over it and fill it with wax, go around the edge too. It`s too minor for it to effect the drum.

Rub a white candle over it and fill it with wax, go around the edge too. It`s too minor for it to effect the drum.

What oddball said, only use 'beeswax' then go over it with double-O gauge (00-00) steel wool. The edges will be as smooth as glass and the drum head will tune up easily.
