Bass Drum Re-Ring Separation...?

Loading...

Hi guys,

I bought some Ludwig shells a few weeks ago and have been in the process of finding all the hardware to complete the kit. The toms are in fantastic condition, but the kick has clearly been played... At first glance, I thought the bearing edges were messed up and needed to be recut, but now that I've inspected it closer, it looks like most of the damage is actually done to the re-ring. They are cracked in a few places, and separating from the shell in others...

What can I do (if anything) to these to make sure they don't get any worse? Main use for this kit is going to be in my studio for clients, so I'm not too bothered with restoring it to pristine conditions, but I also don't want to do anything to the set that's going to make it worth less. Currently, from what I can tell, there are no extra holes in any of the drums, and I'd like to keep it as close to "stock" as possible.

Thanks guys!

I was hoping you would get some reply's by now. I'm NO pro but it's easy work to do with the right tools and materials. But do try a topic search. There's TON's of threads that cover shell repair here. Here is one of mine that has a few pics. It shares info I read here. Everyone has their own tricks and tips. So read up. ALSO! On your granitone interiors Mountain Hick has some great info he posted in one of poppy's threads. Go slow and ask Q's as you move along. Most of all have fun and enjoy it! Very rewarding when they are done and you play them for the first time!
