I saw a drummer once playing with dry ice in his bass drum, and he blew rings through the porthole of the resonant head with every kick, more noticeably when there were long pauses between notes (like between songs, and the first kick of the next song would be the most visual ring).

Get a clear Vistalite bass drum; cut a hole on the front head -dead center and fill with some kind of smoke and then observe what happens when you punch the pedal!

I might try this experiment with my Zickos "Supersonic" bass drum! (What else am I going to do with it!? lol!)

I kind of discovered this effect, for myself, one day a few years ago. I was playing an empty blue plastic water bottle (the big kind used for office water coolers). One of my cats walked into the room and I pointed the small end of the bottle at her and then did a palm strike to the large end. She was at least 15 feet away and when the vortex hit her, she jumped straight up! I would have liked to have seen the smoke ring of that one!

Ohhhhhh, you have to video tape that! (I really like cats, but I like funny cat videos better.) Good stuff.
