Thanks for posting.

So was the back piece used across the Swivo-matic, Sta-tite and Bantam strainer units and was the slider the only difference?

If this is true, were there really any benefits to use the more expensive Swivo-matic slider?

The Bantam was used on Luxor snares, starting around serial number 10,000. Before that, The Luxor came with the Statite strainer, also used on Tower snares.

The 'square sided' or Swivomatic strainer (this came in after the 'clockface' strainer, which was a totally unique design) was used on the Powertone and Dynasonic. The Dynasonic unit had a small internal difference needed because of the snareframe in use.

All these strainers, Bantam, Statite, Swivomatic, all use the same main body and internals (except for the aforementioned small Dyna difference). The only difference among them was the faceplate.

The dimensions of the faceplates also set the strings at a different angle, but I don't know if this actually had any impact on the setup of the drum.

The primary difference is cosmetic, allowing each to represent a different pricepoint. Just like Chevy did with the Biscayne, Belaire and Impala in the 60's.

The 3 faceplates all have the same configuration on the back, with a discernable top and bottom design. Looking at the back of a Swivo faceplate gives the guidance for getting the other two types installed 'right side up'.

Thanks for the excellent explanation, DanC.

I actually had the Luxor with S/N 10,000 and it did have a Bantam strainer. ;)

I also have a Luxor with S/N 8,842 and it also has a Bantam strainer.

I just bought the Bantam pictured above and it will be going on the Luxor with S/N 13,454.

I was wondering where the word bantam originated.

Chicken is OK.

bantam

/ˈbæntəm/

noun

1.

any of various very small breeds of domestic fowl

2.

a small but aggressive person

3.

(boxing) short for bantamweight

4.

(Canadian)

an age level of between 13 and 15 in amateur sport, esp ice hockey

(as modifier): bantam hockey

I am glad my small, aggressive chicken went to a good home.

I have 2 snares with Rogers strainers.

Is this one a clock face?

Or does it have a different name?

From green glass drum

I am glad my small, aggressive chicken went to a good home.

Did you sell him the one I sold to you Scott? He sent me a PM, and I told him you probably just added it to your stash. If so, I like happy endings.Cool1
