Effects cymbals are sort of in their own category. There are a lot of "cymbal snobs" who are actually quite fond of some cheaper splashes & chinas. If you're going to upgrade your splashes, do it because you want a different sound, not because you want "something nicer".

I've got two 10" splashes myself -- a Sabian HH and a Wuhan that cost me less than $20 new. I like them both.

I use STAGG splashes and 14 thins for effects. Man, they are so sweet. They cost less than a bag of cat food and have an amazingly cool sound.

my thoughts on upgrading the splashes was b/c I thought the sound was pretty metallic like described in an earlier post. I've played higher level cymbals, so, in time, I'll get there. thanks for all the info.

I'll go ahead and plug Dream cymbals... mcjnic will agree, I'm sure, as he owns some too. I just traded in all of my "high end" Zildjians and replaced all of the crashes and hats with Dreams. Love 'em. Brand new crashes go for $100-$120. They had a 10" splash there for like $40-$50. I may go back and grab it too.
