I found a 1969 Ludwig Standard 5 piece kit Saturday morning at a garage sale. 22,12,13,16,14. This kit has been rewraped and the left the badges off, but everything else is all there.
Are these drums worth rewraping?

If you can get them for a garage sale price, why not? BTW what is the asking price?
Some pics would be nice.
pics? You dont want to get me started takin pics lol I just wanna know if 1969 ludwig standards are worth rewraping and restoring. Will they be worth as much as my 1972 Black panthers, or 1972 blue vistalites, or 68 sky blue pearl luddys, or 61 BDP luddys, or my luddy 69 silver sparkle sexto plus kit, or my early 60's Sonor teardrop blue slate pearls???
Are these worth restoring? Absolutely, they are great shells (same 3 ply as the regular Ludwigs from that time).
Will they be worth as much as your other sets? Nope :)
I have a few sets of the standards, and for the price, you can't beat em. I just picked up a set in Orange Mist for $325 a few months ago. They are a 71, but look like new, and sound just as good as my 60's Luddies.
Why can't I find a set for $75?!?! DOH
Have fun with your project, and we do expect some before and after pics.
For $75 you get 5 rewrapped drums without badges with wrinkled up yellow wrap. I am assuming they used the killer hydond tape method on the rewrap.
They definatly need a rewrappin'

Well, just be very careful in removing the wrap. If it is the Hi-Bond tape, you likely will remove ply if you are not really careful in removing the crap job. And yes, you must present before and afters, sir.
Just try to think of it as for $75 you get the chance to bring a great set of drums back to life, because if they used the hi-bond tape, you could start thinking "I paid $75 to deal with this bull$@#*!!!" ;)
I've yet to encounter a shell to strip that has the hi-bond tape. Is it a real bear to remove? I was TOLD that the tape method makes it EASIER to change the wrap. I know I tried both methods of re-wrapping & definitely prefer the PrecisionNY method. I FIGURE IF YOU'RE GONNA PUT NEW PAJAMAS (oops, caps) on the shell you might as well build it to last, otherwise why don't you just use velcro? Mister T
Poppy, you need to post some pics so we can give you good reasons to rewrap those rascals! I'd say go for it, just be prepared to use chemical stripper and step away from the putty knife. Excited
