Are these Ludwig's what I think they are?

Loading...

Hi guys,

I have a (i'm guessing) early 1990's Ludwig kit in cherrywood finish that I am trying to find some more information about.

I've had a little search over the pages here and am guessing these are Maple Classics.

Would you agree?

thanks 1000 fold for your help on these

I shall have a look over some pics of the super classic range and see if they look the same. If only these drums weren't 50 miles away!

thanks again

I have seen a few Cherry Wood Ludwigs, those def look like it,Ludwig Cherry Wood in certain lighting had a bit of brown in it.A couple of your pics look like that.

Classic Maples were all maple and were 9 ply and then went to 7 ply I think.I know Cherry wood was offered as early as 1992,Maple poplar shell,Super Classic was 4 ply, Classic was 6 ply. You could special order a combination of 4 and 6 ply.Hard to tell from your pics but they look like 4 ply to me also,if you can get a close look the 4 ply is usually around 1/4 thick,6 ply 3/8.The color of the plies in your pics look like the 4 and 6 ply Luds that I owned.

I just had my mum check with a magnifying glass (made for highly comic skype call) and she is saying the drums are 5 ply. This is with the head still on though.

Thanks again all of you, you have been a really great help.

since the tom and kick has the modular hdwr and those spacefic spurs it dates them to the early 90's. also, date stamp says 93 so they're 1993.

the tom has lug gaskets which they didn't do til 97 so i think the gaskets were added later.

James!

Please put your pics back up using the attachment system! In the attempt to do that for you, the pic files were lost off the page. You can put 'em back up though! Just use the MANAGE ATTACHMENTS button. THANKS!!!

I hope I fixed the links, thanks for trying to sort out for me though.

The unusually sunny and green background setting is Hampshire in the UK, looked better out there than in the old dusty room they have been sitting in for about 10+ years.

I’ll be honest that at the moment these are about to fly out of my life as I have no room for them, it’s the last few hours on ebay for them and I wanted to make sure I wasn’t getting anything wrong for the buyers, thanks again all you all helped a great great amount.
