Anybody Booking a NewYear's Eve Gig yet,?

Loading...

I filled in for a (paid) Open Jam gig last week..

It went well, really well.

The bassist & I have have played together in 2differnet bands for over 4yrs now. Hence why he recommended me for this gig.

Well, when it was over & I was packing up my kit..

A second bassist that played with us, came over & was chatting me up alil.

Something he said, stuck with me on my ride back home..!

He turned to both the bassist & I & asked..(with other Musicians standing around), "Hey do you 2guys play in a band together, (then a cpl seconds later), cause you guys just seem to lock in & groove".?

(Nobody really knew that we play together ongoingly).!

On the way home, my bassist calls me...& we talk about this..

We both play in other bands as well, but have noticed that we seem to be able to know each other's strong & weak points..!

We laughed alil, then he asks me,..

" are you booked for New Years Eve,,? I say No.!

But I'd play if it was a decent playing gig, otherwise relax at home.!

So he asks me, what's yr min..? I answer $300/inclds food/drinks.

Then he says, "Well, you know that Singer that sang with us for almost the whole night..? Well, they have a gig lining up & it pays $300each ++.

We chat alil about some ideas,...

Then tonight I get a call from the singer, asking if I'd be willing..?

I thanked them for considering me & asked if I could confirm by Wednesday...

*How do I ask my wife..? We won't be going out anywhere, just staying in late & have a cpl drinks, xoxoxoxoxox Happy New wishes etc..

Thoughts, ideas, comments,?

Your wife will still be there on January 2nd. If you don't take the gig, the money won't. ;-)

John

Too many great drums to list here!

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

I'd take the gig, particularly if there haven't been any better offers. Longjohn is spot on too - take your wife.

Hey Rims! I may have just booked my New Years gig last night. It's not a problem for me right now as long as it pays well. For a few years it was a couples anniversary for me, which was tricky. Not now.

But.....what stood out in your post (for me) is that you seem to have found a bassist with which you really lock! That's precious! & he's hustling gigs too!

Thanks for all the input...

I have to give an answer by Thurs morning...

Trying to see if I can arrange for All of our friends to go as well, (it's a 20min drive),

But my wife hates being alone...!

Usually easier if I solo...!
