Another Wat to Clean Tension Rods

Loading...

So much for proof reading. Sorry for the Title. DOH

I've had good results with this method.

Things needed:
Dawn dish soap

Magic Eraser or generic equivalent

Rag/cloth

drill

Soak the tension rods in a the Dawn/water solution overnight (this will loosen up the grease).

Rinse and dry the tension rods.

Mount a tension rod by the head in the drill chuck and set it to reverse.

Wrap the Magic Eraser around the tension rod and run the drill the length of the rod/threads a couple times.

Repeat the above step with the rag/cloth.
This will make the tension rods and the threads really bright. I have included Before and After pictures.

Good call on the cleaning- I have been restoring an old Gretsch set, needed to clean everything and was really dreading having to clean all the rods. I did not soak in dawn, I applied Bon Ami and Brasso on a rag, and used your drill method. Worked great! Thanks for the tip.
